Holographix diffractive waveguides have use in see-through optical displays

Custom diffractive waveguides can be fabricated for specific applications in see-through optical displays.

A section of swine intestinal tissue is displayed at 1× (a), 4× (b), 20× (c), and 40× (d) magnification levels using a spectrally encoded confocal-microscopy technique. Dotted rectangles in each image represent the zoomed regions of interest. This technique can image a 4 × 4 cm subsurface tissue area with a transverse resolution of 2.1 µm in less than one minute.

MICROSCOPY: Confocal microscopy sees large surface area

Minimally invasive microscopy techniques can reduce the need for excisional biopsy, particularly if the technique can image a large tissue area.
FIGURE 1. Holographic grating is replicated using a light-cured polymer in a five-step process (top to bottom). First, a master grating is exposed in a holographic laboratory. The master is then converted into a tough, inert stamper. Liquid photopolymer is applied to a substrate, which is then pressed onto the stamper. Ultraviolet radiation cures the photopolymer, with all components remaining at ambient temperature. Finally, the grating is released from the stamper, which is then ready to form another grating. The last three steps take only seconds and can be repeated thousands of times.

HOLOGRAPHIC OPTICS: Replication produces holographic optics in volume

Replication techniques based on light-cured photopolymers make possible the mass-production of microstructured optics with feature sizes of much less than a micron.
