The portable E-Series UV lamps from Spectroline (Westbury, NY) are convenient for obtaining inexpensive gradient sampling, such as saving lab personnel trips to the darkroom to use a UV transilluminator. These lamps make faint DNA bands much more visible, and are essential when isolating the DNA bands on a CsCl solution. E-Series lamps ensure a higher sensitivity of detection during gradient separation of DNA bands from agarose gel slices without damaging the ethidium bromide-stained DNA. Available in 30 different models, features of the E-Series lamps include anodized housings and specular aluminum reflectors for optimum UV irradiance. All short-and medium-wave models have exclusive LONGLIFE filter glass for higher initial UV transmission and maximum resistance to solarization.
