CytoSMART Technologies launches dual-camera live-cell imager

June 12, 2020
The CytoSMART Lux2 Duo Kit live-cell imaging system allows researchers to make immediate side-by-side comparisons between cell cultures without setting foot in a lab.

CytoSMART Technologies (Eindhoven, Netherlands) has launched a new live-cell imaging system. The CytoSMART Lux2 Duo Kit offers a cost-effective solution for researchers carrying out immediate side-by-side comparisons between cell cultures.

The dual-camera mini live-cell imaging system is especially useful for stem cell research, says Jan-Willem van Bree, CTO at CytoSMART Technologies. “Researchers can use the remote functionality of the CytoSMART cloud to gain insight into the current confluence levels on their phone. Over-growing of cultures is prevented, as is loss of stemness of the cell-line, ensuring optimal yield,” he adds.

The system, which comprises two imaging devices connected to one laptop, enables noninvasive inspection of the colonies that are formed by induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and the morphology of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) without setting foot in a lab, according to van Bree. It operates from within CO2 incubators and hypoxia chambers. Bright-field imaging is deployed to create real-time, time-lapse videos, which are accessible remotely. Samples are also imaged under identical conditions, providing a platform for unambiguous comparison between cell culture variables and retaining data integrity.
