The M3-FS focus module from New Scale Technologies delivers 0.5 µm lens motion in handheld, portable medical imaging systems.

The M3-FS focus module from New Scale Technologies (Victor, NY) delivers 0.5 µm lens motion in handheld, portable medical imaging systems such as blood analyzers, portable in vitro diagnostics (IVD) systems, handheld optometry devices, wearable assisted vision devices, miniature cameras for medical imaging and robotic surgery, and handheld video microscopes for clinical imaging. The module, which operates on battery power and resists shock, vibration, and temperature extremes, reportedly performs at any orientation with high dynamic stability and little or no pixel shift. Measuring 20 × 23 × 16 mm, the module requires no more space than a typical fixed lens mount, and accepts standard lenses up to M16. An integrated controller takes commands directly from the imaging system processor.
