The XTM-50 manually tunable optical filter has adjustable bandwidth down to 6.25 GHz. The filter has a wavelength tuning range from 1450 to 1650 nm and a bandwidth adjusting range from 50 to 800 pm. It allows engineers to extract channels with low insertion loss and no signal distortion due to 0.2 dB flatness and 550 dB/nm steep edges.

Yenista filters optically down to 6.25 GHz

Lannion, FRANCE, June 21, 2010 – Yenista Optics, a manufacturer of Fiber Optic Test & Measurement Equipment for laboratories as well as manufacturers, announces the release of its XTM-50, a manually tunable filter. The optical filter has adjustable bandwidth down to 6.25 GHz (50 pm), a record for diffraction grating based devices.

In development of next generation 100G systems, the need for extremely narrow tunable filters has emerged to investigate sub-bands of the 100G multiplex. The XTM-50 has a wavelength tuning range from 1450 to 1650nm and a bandwidth adjusting range from 50 pm to 800 pm. It allows engineers to extract channels with low insertion loss and no distortion of signal thanks to an impressive 0,2 dB flatness and 550 dB/nm steep edges. “New transmission technologies related to 100G, like OFDM, are rapidly emerging in labs and create the need for new analysis tools. If you are looking at multiplexing four different optical streams in a 50 GHz filter, you cannot use anymore your old Gaussian or semi-flat-top filter, you need something really narrow with very steep edges” said Nicephore Nicolas, Yenista's Sales and Marketing Manager. “With this new manually tunable filter, Yenista provides an innovative solution for studying new modulation formats, high bit rate transmission and cascaded ROADMs. Moreover, this manual version offers a very attractive price-performance ratio”.

In addition to the XTM-50 filter, Yenista proposes a complete range of tunable filters, Xtract, WSA-160 and WSM-160, covering most spectral selection requirements in fiber optic systems. These products will be showcased end of September at ECOC 2010, booth number 284, in Torino, Italy.
