4D Technology dynamic profiler measures surface roughness on large optics

April 2, 2011
The NanoCam Sq dynamic profiler uses dynamic interferometry via a high-speed optical sensor.

The NanoCam Sq dynamic profiler uses dynamic interferometry via a high-speed optical sensor. 4Sight analysis software reports ISO 25178 surface roughness parameters and provides extensive 2D and 3D analysis options, data filtering, masking, database, and import/export functions. Applications include surface roughness of large coated/uncoated optics, on-machine surface roughness metrology, and process control for polishing operations.

PRESS RELEASE

4D Technology Introduces NanoCam Sq Dynamic Profiler
for 3D Surface Roughness Measurement on Large Optics

Tucson, AZ, February 8, 2011 - The NanoCam Sq dynamic profiler is a first-of-its-kind instrument for measurement of surface roughness on large, polished optics and optical quality surfaces. This unique instrument replaces slow, messy replication methods required by traditional workstation interferometers. By enabling on-machine roughness metrology it reduces handling and transportation of the optic, increasing throughput and dramatically reducing the risk of damage to expensive, mission-critical optics.

The NanoCam Sq utilizes Dynamic Interferometry®, incorporating a high-speed optical sensor that measures thousands of times faster than typical profilers. Because acquisition time is so short, the NanoCam Sq can measure despite vibration, making it possible to mount the instrument in polishing equipment, on gantries or on robots. This freedom of positioning means that the instrument can measure any location on the surface of a large optic, and that the optic can be located anywhere, including on polishing equipment.

The NanoCam Sq Dynamic Profiler is a complete system including the profiler, computer system and 4Sight™ advanced analysis software. Industry-leading 4Sight reports ISO 25178 surface roughness parameters and provides extensive 2D and 3D analysis options, data filtering, masking, database and import/export functions.

Applications for the NanoCam Sq include surface roughness of large, coated and uncoated optics, on-machine surface roughness metrology, and process control for polishing operations.
