Tucson, AZ--4D Technology is introducing of its latest Fizeau instrument, the FizCam 2000. "This is a first-of-its-kind "on-axis" vibration insensitive Fizeau featuring a short coherence length source that enables measurement of transparent samples and assemblies which are difficult or impossible to measure with traditional laser interferometers," said James Millerd, Chief Technology Officer at 4D.

Typical long coherence interferometer systems produce multiple fringe interference when measuring parallel optical surfaces such as glass windows. The short coherence feature of the FizCam 2000 eliminates the need for extraneous coatings to control these interfering fringes by isolating and measuring only the desired surface. In addition to measuring parallel optical grade surfaces, the FizCam 2000 is well suited for separating and measuring surfaces within an optical assembly, making remote cavity measurements, testing of index homogeneity, measuring thin optics, and environmental chamber testing.

FizCam 2000 eliminates the need for bulky and slow phase shifters by incorporating a single camera, high-speed optical phase sensor that makes a wavefront measurement in as little as 30 microseconds. Because the acquisition time is so short, the FizCam 2000 can be used under almost any conditions including measuring moving parts, without the need for additional isolation. Existing standard 4-inch Fizeau accessories from most manufactures are fully compatible with this system so there in no need to replace costly components.
